Let’s bust some myths about the King Portable Hardness Tester…

Fact: The King Portable Brinell Tester weighs 38 pounds. Compared to bench testers, which weigh upwards of 1000 pounds, this is a very light tester. Although it is light, the King Portable Brinell Tester delivers a full 3000kg load and performs consistent and reliable tests.  


Fiction: The King Portable Brinell Tester is not sturdy.  

Fact: The King Portable Brinell Tester is made of stainless steel. The elevating screws are durable alloy steel and the test head is casted stainless steel. King Portable Brinell Testers have been used in the field since the 1930s making them not only sturdy but long-lasting as well.  


Fiction: I have pieces that can only be tested on bench units despite being extremely difficult to move because they are too big for the King Portable Brinell Tester.

Fact: King offers portable testers with a variety of different sized bases and test head configurations.  The chain adapter  broadens the capability to test virtually anything in the field or in house.  


Fiction: The King Portable Brinell Tester needs to be repaired frequently.   

Fact: The King Portable Brinell Tester is the most durable tester available.  Most functionality repairs are a result of user error.


Fiction: When I send in my King Portable Brinell Tester for repair or calibration I will not have a tester to use in the meantime.

Fact: To avoid downtime for testing, King offers a loaner program. Contact the service department prior to sending in your King Portable Brinell Tester for repair and we will arrange for a loaner. 


Fiction: I can calibrate my own King Portable Brinell Tester.

Fact: While you may be able to calibrate your King Portable Brinell Tester, it will not be certified under ISO-17025.  King Tester is an accredited laboratory certified under ISO-17025 for performing calibrations as required by ASTM-E10 standards.
