Customer: Scot Forge
Industry: Forging

Scot Forge is an industry leader in open die forging and rolled ring forging.  It is headquartered in Spring Grove, IL but has four other branch locations. Scot Forge makes products for clients in industries like aerospace and defense, infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, and nuclear.

Scot Forge has a reputation for providing high-quality products in a timely and efficient manner.  It is certified under ISO-9001, which means all of its products are certified under a quality management standard.   It used a bench tester to do its metal hardness testing because bench testers are widely regarded as the most accurate and dependable.  But one size does not fit all.

A bench tester was not the best option for Scot Forge to maximize efficiency and profit. Scot Forge needed an option that was just as accurate and reliable but kept labor and safety risks, in an already extremely hot and loud environment, to a minimum.

Problem: Scot Forge used to spend too much time and money transporting its pieces to a bench unit, which is not efficient nor safe.  Scot Forge noticed a constant and steady decline in production because the time to test took too long. This made it difficult to meet shipment and delivery commitments to its customers.  Scot Forge needed to streamline its testing. Transporting pieces to a bench unit was no longer an option for Scot Forge.

Solution: Scot Forge made the switch to the King Portable Brinell Tester.  The King Portable Brinell Tester streamlined the production process at Scot Forge by allowing them to test on the production floor.  Gone are the days of transporting pieces of metal to a bench tester.

Now Scot Forge brings the testing to its pieces immediately after it cools.   But Scot Forge did not stop at just using the King Portable Brinell Tester.  It uses the KingScope when it needs readings in tight cavities and the KingScan for automatic readings.  Both microscopes further streamlined the production process at Scot Forge.

The KingScope is able to fit in extremely narrow and hard-to-reach but necessary spots and the KingScan gives Scot Forge 0.01mm-accurate readings with just the push of a button. Over the last 15 years, Scot Forge has used King Tester products to safely and efficiently perform metal hardness tests and readings.

Scot Forge maintains its commitment to quality and excellence to its customers because the streamlined process decreased production time and was able to meet shipment and delivery deadlines while ensuring the safety of its employees.
